Mufumbwe District

The Mufumbwe Magistrate Court today conducted an Oath of Office Ceremony for newly elected local government leaders.
Council Chairperson Kulaunda Kellies and 18 Ward Councillors who were voted into office during the August 13 General Elections were sworn in during a function held in the Council Chamber at the Civic Centre.
Resident Magistrate Hon. Manengu presided over the ceremony. The Council Chairperson and each Councillor individually and solemnly swore to “protect, preserve and defend the Constitution of Zambia.”
They also swore to “faithfully perform the duties of this office to the best of my skills, belief, ability and judgment, in the interest and welfare of the people, without fear, favour or malice.”
In his address, Hon. Manengu congratulated the Council Chairperson and Councillors on their victory in the Local Government Elections and wished them well in their service.
He reminded the civic leaders to honour the oath they had taken, warning that breaking it carries serious moral, legal and social consequences.
Speaking earlier during the opening ceremony, Council Secretary Robbie Chitambo welcomed and congratulated the Council Chairperson and Councillors.
Mr. Chitambo said the Constitution Amendment Act No. 13 of 2025 and the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 require members of Council to take the Oath of Office before they begin performing any official duties.
After the ceremony, the Magistrate, Council Secretary, Council Chairperson and Councillors posed for group photographs.
Also present and providing support during the ceremony were MTC Director of Administration Mary Chiponge, Council Advocate Cindy Kunkula, and Chief Administrative and Committee Clerk Lungowe Silishebo.
