STAKEHOLDER’S MEETING WITH MARKETEERS

Mufumbwe Town Council convened a stakeholder’s meeting on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, to discuss illicit garbage disposal in unauthorized areas within the Central Business District (CBD).
Organized by the Planning Department, the meeting aimed to sensitize marketers on maintaining hygiene in trading areas, thereby reducing the risk of disease outbreaks.
Indiscriminate waste disposal has been observed to detract from the appeal of trading areas, with local traders citing negligence and a lack of adherence to health principles.
Health Inspector Ms. Mabeta Faith presented on the challenges and problems arising from indiscriminate waste disposal, highlighting the public health perspective.
Key discussion points included:
– The impact of illicit garbage dumping on community health
– Disease outbreaks and preventive measures
The Community Development section emphasized the importance of partnering with local authorities to champion initiatives promoting garbage-free trading areas.
The community development perspective encompassed:
– The role of communities in waste management
– Mobilizing local participation and ownership of solutions
Mufumbwe Town Council has constructed six refuse bins in the CBD to combat indiscriminate waste disposal and encourages citizens, businesses, and stakeholders to participate in the “Keep Mufumbwe Clean, Green, and Healthy” campaign every Friday.
